Birthday Celebrations
Last year, Wood Acres instituted a new birthday policy. We are no longer allowed to send in food to celebrate a birthday. However there are other ways we can celebrate your child's birthday:
You may send in non-edible treats in honor of your child's birthday. For example, pencils, erasers, kazoos, or any other appropriate toy. We have 21 students in our class. If you send in treats, please make sure that you send in the same item for everyone. Sending in different items for different children can lead to disgruntled students.
You may wish to bring in a story to share with the class instead of bringing in a treat. You, you child, or I, may read his/her favorite short story. The book can be donated to the Media Center or our classroom in honor of your child's birthday.

Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteering is a fun way to get involved in your child's education. There will be various volunteer opportunities throughout the year. See current opportunities below:
Parent chaperones are needed for our field trip to the National Zoo. Please fill out the form attached to the field trip permission slip to let me know you're interested!

Climate Control
Our classroom’s weather is quite unpredictable. Unbearably hot or uncharacteristically chilly- each day you just never know! Therefore I am suggesting that students store an extra sweatshirt or sweater in their lockers. Dressing in layers is always a good game plan for surviving in room 232’s climate.
Also, please be prepared for your child to go outside in the cold temperatures. A coat is a must. Gloves, scarves, and hats can additionally be stored in lockers until recess.
Donations
As school supplies begin to dwindle during the school year I will send home a voluntary donation note asking, perhaps pleading, for parents to send in these items. Be on the look out for such notes!
Meet Harriet
Harriet is our classroom pet. Harriet is a hilarious hen that travels to learn with a new student each day. She is a serious student though and loves to learn something new each day. She says.....learning is fun!
Students can log into Webkinz on his or her special day with Harriet.
